The Future of TV Advertising: Don’t Change that Station!
Posted by NoName Categories: Commercials, News, Ratings,
What are the brains in TV advertising and technology up to now that TiVo reports its users skip 70% of commercials? A Philips patent application begun in 2003 reveals that TV viewers may soon be unable to fast forward or change the channel the moment a TV ad comes on the station. According to the U.S. Patents office, it will be an “apparatus and method for preventing switching from a channel during an advertisement display.”
Rather than rely on technology that forbids viewers the inalienable right to change the channel, it might simply be a matter of putting out vision worthy ads. Oh, they try, but there hasn’t been much marketing genius or else we would be enjoying every minute of the boob tube, including the ads.

Jeff Goldblum Gets Ready To See Dead People In Raines

NBC has given Jeff Goldblum the opportunity to take the Raines and portray a cop who sees dead people in its upcoming paranormal series. It is planned to be a companion to the network’s other moderate hit, Medium. The Pennsylvania born actor might bring new life to this “after life” idea the network keeps trying to sell. Raines promises an innovative police drama that mixes in a bit of humor with a pinch of intrigue. Goldblum will play Michael Raines, an eccentric LAPD detective who has a peculiar gift that causes him to revisit some of his own demons while solving his cases. Cool! Hey he has seen aliens and dinosaurs, what’s a few ghosts?

NBC Hopes Windfall Cashes In
Posted by Eric Chaloux Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC, Talent,
When I saw the commercials for the new NBC show “Windfall” with Luke Perry in it, it kind of made me feel old. I guess I haven’t really seen Perry in much since 90210 days. Okay, I wasn’t a Perry fan when 90210 was big.
Windfall starts this Thursday, June 8th on NBC. It’s based around the lives of 20 people who all win the lottery. Perry and Lana Parrilla play Peter and Nina Schaefer on the show. The series starts with the Nina and Peter at a get together and they drop a few dollars in a pot that will buy lottery tickets. If the group wins then they get their share of the jackpot. Well as you guessed they win big to the tune of $386 million dollars. They’re just two of the 20 people whose lives change after those lucky numbers are drawn.
The show answers the question you always ask yourself when you buy a lottery ticket…how will my life change? It’s a nice fresh idea for summer TV.

After nearly twenty years, it appears even a film like “Dirty Dancing” is not safe from the tentacle like reaches of reality television. After stage productions of the hit film started raking in the bucks in places like Germany, Poland, Italy & Japan, producers decided a reality show would be next on the creative resume of the beloved film. The show is being billed as a “Dancing with Stars” meets “The Bachelor”. The premise is to put less experienced female dancers with more experienced male pro dancers (ala Grey/Swayze). But it doesn’t stop there. The “Bachelor” twist to the series includes the female contestants vying for the affection of their dance partner. And what do the winning couples get for sparking heat both under their feet and in their hearts? They will be cast in one of the world stage productions of the show, which could land them at the Aladdin Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The popular production will be making it’s U.S. debut there in 2007.
What makes The Sopranos great for one thing is that know how to drive in style. So, Forbes Magazine did a little research as to the most popular luxury vehicles that have appeared on the show during the last six seasons.
You find the Rolls-Royce given to Allegra Sacrimoni, daughter of Johnny Sacrimoni, for her wedding day absent from the list. Forbes.com says the car didn’t make the Top 10 list because the new bride is a minor character on the show. But Sal “BP” Bonpensiero Cadillac De Ville did.
Here’s the list:
- 2003 Cadillac Escalade ESV
- 2005 Porsche Cayenne S
- 2005 Maserati Coupe Cambiocorsa
- 2004 Cadillac Seville
- 2005 Hummer H2
- 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML430
- 1996 Cadillac DeVille
- 2006 Chevrolet Corvette
- 2003 Ford Thunderbird
- 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis

MSNBC’s Top 5 Missed Shows
Posted by Eric Chaloux Categories: CBS, FOX, NBC, WB, Arrested Development, West Wing, The, Cancellations, Internet, Ratings,
The new summer season is about to take over the steamy airwaves. As we laugh, cry and look for the remote while watching these new shows it will give us sometime to think about what’s on the horizon. A lot of shows won’t be back this fall.
Here’s what MSNBC has as the Top 5 shows they’ll miss.
- Arrested Development
- Alias
- The West Wing
- Everwood
- That ‘70s Show
A lot of big names are not on their Top 5 list. Some of those obvious ones are Will & Grace, Malcolm in the Middle and the Bernie Mac Show. I’m not that heartbroken over a season without Hope & Faith and Joey.

Now that the first episode of The Hills has been aired it’s obvious that Heidi will need to make some major lifestyle changes. On the show the party-girl told her college adviser that she didn’t learn anything in high school. Who tells their college adviser that regardless of whether or not it’s true!? As if things could not get worse after revealing that little fact, Heidi also led her adviser to believe that she has unrealistic goals and is not very interested in doing any work. College can be a lot harder then it seems and Heidi will need to work more then she ever has in order to be successful at her public relations major. Does Heidi really care enough to make the effort, or are her dreams of life in Los Angeles just simply a fantasy?
Project Runway: Season Three On The Horizon
Posted by Rachel Langley Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Editorial,
Looks like another sexy season of Bravo’s hit show “Project Runway” is just around the corner. It’s time to get out those cutting shears and soup up your sewing skills for the July 12th premiere. Rumor has it, some changes are on the way for this season’s series including a change of venue. Seems to me as long as the cast of designing misfits stay as interesting as the past two seasons (oh Santino how I miss you), they could film this thing in a tent in Fiji and I would still be hooked. Sort of “Lost” meets “Project Runway”. Now that’d be some television…
It got prime time billing, but the Scripps National Spelling Bee on ABC Thursday night didn’t get an A in the ratings. Coming off the movie “Akeelah and the Bee” that thrust the world of spellers into the spot light, the National Bee got stung in the ratings and finished in third place.
Here’s a look at the numbers…8 million people tuned in the telecast, which earned a 2.2 rating/7 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to Nielsen. That tied it for third place with NBC in the demo between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., when its competition was Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” reality show, CBS’s game shows and a “CSI” repeat and NBC’s four repeats of “The Office.”
The winner of the night was CBS with that brutal Gameshow Marathon and a CSI repeat. Oh, the other winner of the night was New Jersey’s Catherine Close who won with the word U-R-S-P-R-A-C-H-E.
Nip/Tuck Doctors Get More Dollars
Posted by Jill Tecler Categories: Prime Time, Cable, Nip/Tuck, Talent,
Lucky for Dr. Christian Troy and Dr. Sean McNamara that the villainous Carver’s reach was unable to get to their bank accounts. Yesterday, cable network FX announced that in light of Nip/Tuck’s record ratings last season, series stars Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh will both be awarded with substantial raises this year, bringing their total earnings for the upcoming fourth season to close to $1.8 million each. While the specifics related to the dollar amount have not been confirmed, it’s believed that this increase is almost twice as much as each actor received for the third season, where memorable moments outside of the Carver included the return of Gina, a pregnant Mrs. Santa Claus, ax-wielding Mr. Alderman and a gorilla named Kiki.
